The following is a message from the 2400fulton list archives, containing an excerpt from a magazine article about China's part in The Evening Star. Unfortunately, I don't have the photo which goes with it.

I recently bought a copy of the magazine Premiere (December Issue with a big pic of Mel Gibson on the cover). I don't usually buy it because I read about a lot of movies I want to see that either don't make it here to Japan, or are usually delayed three to six months. (Independence Day, for example, will premiere next month! Not that I want to see it.) At any rate, I'm thumbing through the pages when suddenly the name Grace Slick catches my eye, accompanied by a photo of three quite nice-looking women kneeling on a beach in short black dresses.

The article is called Family Style. The catch-phrase is: What do GRACE SLICK, DYAN CANNON, and PETER BOGDONAVICH have in common? They each have an actress daughter hoping for a career boost from the "Terms Of Endearment" sequel, "The Evening Star". Here's the bit about China. Don't care for the writer's description of Paul and Grace though...

Unlike her costars, Kantner, the daughter of rock dinosaurs, hasn't had to deal with these issues of Hollywood royalty. Still, the 25-year-old actress says, she got plenty of atitude from her peers when she became a veejay on MTV during high school. Her parents advice? "They said, 'Fuck 'em if they're jealous and wierd about it.'" Kantner recalls laughing. "It's the same advice they give themselves."

Kantner, who has appeared in such series as 'Murphy Brown' and the short-lived 'Monty', actually knew Bogdonavich from acting class, but neither of them had met Grant. So, after they were cast, they met for lunch and swapped stories. "We were laughing because how great it is that all three of us went in and got it ourselves," Kantner says. "And now we get to laugh at people who are going, 'Oh yeah, right. I'm sure you sucked somebody off and your mother made a phone call.'"

The article itself is really short, but the picture is REALLY nice. I recommend at least taking a look at the photo (Pgs. 106-107). If the sequel does as well as the original, we may see Paul and Grace sitting in the audience on Oscar night. Hope this is China's big break. Judging from her quotes, China didn't only inherit her good-looks from Paul and Grace, but also a bit of their biting sarcasm ;-) Damned refreshing!

Sorry to use so much bandwidth, and I hope this hasn't been posted before.
