These are a few of the little stories and anecdotes I've collected from my friends on the 2400 Fulton mailing list concerning China. As more come to light, I'll add them as and when I get time, but I hope those here now raise a few smiles. Check out the bottom of the page for a very special story about Abbie Hoffman and one of China's birthday parties!

Just an anecdote: a coworker at my last workplace was humored by my playing JA at work. Apparently she lived in the Haight in the 70s and was sitting on her doorstep as the person next door was offering free puppies to pedestrians passing by. A young girl came up, fell in love with one, but was told that she couldn't have it unless her parents approved.
Okay, she said brightly, and ran off. A while later she came back, tugging along a reluctant Paul Kantner. It was China, and she got the pet.

I remember once that Grace was on MTV with her (during the time Grace was in Starship), and China said that she thought Starship's music was boring...Grace, looked kind of pissed off (but laughed)and said "that's just because you hear us so often" or something along those lines...
I remember thinking..."outspoken....like mother like daughter...."

I finally got to see that really bad LA Firefighters show last night.
China's great on it, though. As Entertainment Weekly said, she plays
Flame, a firehouse groupie who gets turned on by watching guys slide down
their poles (or something like that.) She's going for the dark hair now
which is kind of spooky because she looks just like...
Anyway, check it out at least to see her performance.

>How about China Kantner as Grace? It is a little BALLSY
Wow! Thanks for the reminder Paul. I finally rented The Stoned Age
(w/China Kanter of course! for those of you playing the home game)
and was floored by the resemblance.
Seeing only one woman on the cover of the video box, I originally
figured China must be the blond. In that scene where the door
opens and the camera pans upwards, I just started shaking
my head, wondering how on earth a cross of Paul & Grace came
out looking like that......
Then the door opened again, and a second upward pan......
WOW! Grace! I mean China! And when she spoke and
sounded just like her mom....YIKES!
I was truly unhinged and mesmerized for the
remainder of the film (which was a good thing
because, well, the movie......I've seen better).
Is that it for China? Anything else out there
to track down?
Does she have any musical aspirations? : )
Trish.

My first and only encounter with China Kantner came stagefront during a Jefferson Whatever show when she was maybe 3 ,mabe not??? The band was cranking when she wandered onstage, studied the situation and climbed up atop a monitor of some sort and began to dance in the unabandoned way kids have. Finally wearing down in the land of multidecibels, she curled up right there and went to sleep with the crowd on one side and the band on the other and the whole place rocking. If this is where mom and dad are and everybody loves them, it must be ok. So much for keeping things quiet so the baby can sleep!

Abbie, while he was on the run and hiding out with Joanna at our house
in San Francisco, dressed up as a marvelous clown and presided over
China's 6th or 7th birthday party; while all of the matronly mothers of
China's classmates had no idea who was greeting them at the door as they
dropped off their children for the party.
He was spectacular as a clown and all of the children didn't want to
leave at the end of the party because of his 'child-friendly' ways,
games and antics that he 'entertained' them with...
"Pleeeeeze, let us stay just a little bit longer," they all wailed as
their parents came to pick them up.

She would be great playing Grace if she could handle it.
